A month filled with sharing of what we have - summary of October

Good time for a good cause 

Let’s start with a thing that was my personal highlight of last month - our charity initiative! This time, with the struggle of the new school year, we decided to work with child care home from Poznań. After finding out what are their needs, we went straight to work! We organized our favorite way of collecting money - an auction. But not a boring one - we were bidding on a LEGO play-time, delicious sandwiches, car rides (when it’s safe to do so!), and much, much more! After an auction, we also held an internal pub quiz, which of course, we held online. The result? We were able to create gift bags for each kid, buy an oven, induction hob, and an ample supply of cleaning products. We even were able to buy a last-minute gift when we found out that on the day of our delivery one of the pupils was celebrating her 18th birthday! Remember, every day is a good day to get together and do something good for the world. :)

Autumn doesn’t mean getting cozy under a blanket and doing nothing. Or does it? After all, what’s there to do after work than to put on a great podcast and slouch on a couch with a cup of a hot beverage of your choice? We, of course, have one podcast we can strongly recommend - Piątki po Deployu! In October, Miłosz and Mateusz covered such topics as the role of QA specialists in a software house and how you can learn development on your own. While the latter was covered by our dynamic duo, the first topic was a subject of discussion between Mateusz and Dorota, one of our QA Team Leaders. Sound interesting? Internal newspaper or a common tabloid?

In October we also introduced our internal newspaper - Werix, Życie w Merix. As you can see, while we pride ourselves on our work and its individuality, a few years ago, when we started Werix, we went a little overboard when it comes to similarities to our inspiration. But, after all, that’s what a good caricature is all about! And our newspaper is all about taking a mickey out of news about celebrities, their scandals, and making news out of the smallest of affairs. With that in mind, we’ve written eye-catching stories about a delivery gone awry, parties that turned into brawls, feuds, heartbreaking stories about a spoiled lunch waiting in the fridge for their owner, and much, much more. All, of course, a tiny, tiny bit exaggerated. And a lot of fun.

Let’s test your knowledge of testing!

As always, we are on a constant lookout for the possibility of sharing our expertise with those willing to learn and broaden their knowledge. That’s why in October Olga, one of our quality assurance specialists, participated in QA Tester Online Meetup #2. 

In her presentation, she introduced the testing techniques based on the specification and presented, among others, examples of equivalence classes, decision tables, and test cases. Together with her listeners, she also considered what types of can be detected with these techniques. Sounds like she knows her craft well! :)

Merix would be nothing without the people that work here! We pride ourselves on being a diverse group, with different views, interests, and passions. That’s how we can constantly broaden our lives with something new and exciting! 

This month we introduced Maciej (shown above), whose great humor and pleasant personality brighten everyone’s lunchtime, Andrzej, our video star and man of many interests, Kasia, one of the biggest Harry Potter fans there is, and Paweł, an animal lover and the one Kasia watched HP movies with (we bet the promise of watching them until the end of times was in their wedding vows). 
 

That would be all for this month. Some charity, some knowledge sharing - even if it’s been and done many times before, each month something goes a little bit differently. That’s why it’s so exciting!
