So that’s the reason we are publishing stories of our work buddies. I think they are really cool - both Merix folks as well as their hobbies. You could learn about passions of Pablo and Maciej, Ola and Maria and Wiesiu and Radek so far. So that you know that Merixstudio includes guitar players, singers, yoga masters, sailors, football lovers and board game geeks. Of course, that’s not all - we work with so many people with so many fascinating stories to be told!
Summer is coming - now’s the perfect time to do some travelling, so let’s start with Marcin. Yeah, I know it’s a tricky thing when it comes to Merixstudio and Marcins (a lot of them are working here, what may make office life more comfortable for our new friends). This time I am talking about Marcin, known as Wasyl :)
Marcin is working as a Frontend Developer who is fascinated by 3D graphics. Our whole office also knows that he is the biggest fan of “Back to the Future” and travelling by his red vee-dub. In the summer you might meet him at Woodstock festival where actually his passion started for real.
My love for travelling with friends by my VW bus started with the completely different car. I borrowed my parents’ car and went by the sea where I squatted on a car parking. I liked this way of travelling very much.
Marcin realised that he needs something bigger and more comfortable while during one of the Woodstock parties he fell in love with hippie van. He decided that he came to the next edition of the festival by his own vdub. And so he did.
Marcin also started travelling around the world by his van. Of course, with his old gang. They visited 19 countries so far. Which one was the best?
I am a heat-loving person, so every place with palm trees are great for me! But I was deeply impressed by Gibraltar and Croatia. I recommend you all visit these countries.
Here you have a brief video summary of a trip around West Europe:
About every of his trip Marcin is thinking with a big smile on his face. But to be honest, there were times that they didn’t feel like laughing. Doing far travels almost always includes unexpected and sometimes scary situations.
I remember when we were visiting Austria, and we realised that a car is following us. It was a night. It started to be really weird and scary when the car cut us off, and armed people got out of it. Luckily they turned out to be policemen undercover. A very nice situation happened in France when our van broke down in the middle of nowhere. We didn’t know what to do when a Polish priest came out of nowhere. He helps us so much - we got not only a free night but also our vee-dub was fixed for free.
What Marcin is dreaming about right now is hitting the American road and travelling through the US.
I’m sure that during his tour around the US, Marcin will take a lot of photos. The rule “pics or it didn’t happen” is brutal :)
But talking about taking beautiful pictures, at Merixstudio we had a few excellent photographers. One of the is… of course (!)... Marcin :D
Marcin is a COO at Merixstudio which means he is responsible not only for implementing the company's strategy but also analysing financial results and development plans. He’s also the one who will help you solve any problem you have.
After hours he shoots excellent pictures - just check them out!
He told me how his love for photography started.
I’ve always been interested in all the cameras around me. Even when I thought of photography rather as being just a typical souvenir from a family vacation. There was also one family camera that was not within my grasp - Zenit E. Today it is almost 50 years old and still working. It’s mine now. Sometimes I take pictures with this camera.
It’s not the only camera you will find in Marcin’s closet. He’s also keeping there this his first analogue SLR camera bought with his own money.
Taking about the first Marcin’s steps in photo shooting, he started with trips and family photos what he finds rather dull now. Buying DSLR camera was the turning point. Digital cameras allow you to check out your creation much more faster so you can try and try - there’s no limit.
In the beginning, I ended with 1000 images from a one-week trip, and almost 400 of them were about the same. I’m sure that you know what I’m talking about.
Marcin is not confined to the specific type of photos. He’s comfortable with headshots, pictures of nature, phenomenon, landscapes as well as macro.
When asked what he likes to most in the photography, Marcin replied:
I like the most that I can keep this one specific moment on my photos. The feeling of self-joy as well as that other like what I did. Materializing and turning something digital into something that you can touch; I mean printing the moment on paper.
The most favourite object to snap is his wife and his daughter :) Besides, Marcin like to take photos of his beloved city - Poznań; especially at sunset.
Besides the technical preparation for shooting, the light is his number one rule.
Looking for an interesting light that will highlight, describe and colour what I see is what is very important to me when taking a picture.
Hope you enjoyed the stories of Marcins. We have a lot more stories of our folks to be told. Stay tuned!
