You had an opportunity to learn about a few of our Merix buddies so far. If you read the previous article about our people, you know we could start a Merix band. You can find a lot of musicians between us. Merixstudio also stands for sports people - the ones who do sports and the ones who watch it.
This time we’re ready to swim in the waters of adventure together with Radek who is working as a Project Manager at Merixstudio. Hello, sailor - you can say to him. Yep, Radek is passionate about sailing
It all started when Radosław was in high school. He found regular camps organised for students boring and decided that he want to go to sailing camp.
I went to Mazuria lake district where together with other young people I learned how to steer sailboat. I took part in this camp three years in the row and then it turned out that I’m too old for another one.
It was a time when Radek got the sailing bug. Not only sailing was fun but also meeting people from different part of Poland.
I made a big mistake then. I didn’t apply for my sailing papers. But I found the solution - I was sailing with my friends that had received their papers.
In the beginning, it was indeed men trips. But boys were growing, and women joined their trips.
Now we have our bunch of friends that we usually sail together. Unfortunately, we don’t have much time, so typically we go sail on weekends. But the one, very important tradition is maintained. We always swim during May Weekend.
Don’t be afraid, two years ago Radek received his sailing papers :) He’s always responsible and safe. However, I’m sure that it’s not as simple as it should be because Radek doesn’t like smooth sailing without wind and with the relaxing sun above heads.
I’d prefer trips including coming storms and adrenaline. I like it when things get out of control. Then people cooperate on the boat instead of lying and sunbathing. It’s really cool!
Like a real brave sailor, Radek had somewhat dangerous adventures on stormy waters. Once, during the storm, he sailed the ship in the company of people that had no idea about sailing so that he was the only one to could do anything. The worst part was the fact that a rudder was broken. Of course, all was well in the end. They've survived ;)
From the adventure seas, we land on the game island! Various types of games such as board games, card games or video games are the field of Wiesiek, our Backend Developer and the star of #GeekShirtFriday Instagram series. At Merixstudio he is known as a big fan of Pokemon GO and Magic the Gathering, but I’m sure these are not only games that Wiesiek loves to play.

Now he is very dedicated to his passion. He even walks every day to work about 40 minutes to catch Pokemons and get higher levels and further badges.
But, how did it start?
For good, it started in 2009 when Wiesiek went on Poznań Game Arena. Then the event was divided into three parts: Digital Arena, Paintball Arena and Fantasy Arena. The last one was the place where he had the opportunity to play Dominion. He also discovered Gramajda group which organizes board games meeting every Monday.
Together with my friends we fell into games and took part in other games meetings. We also played every game that came to our hands.
During one of the first meetings, Wiesiek played Battlestar Galactica - the game that he just fell in love with. The game is based on sci-fi series with the same title.
I hadn’t got the chance to meet this Universum before, and I had a fabulous time with Battlestar Galactica. I liked it so much that I bought the basic version and two of three available additionals. I resigned from buying the third one because unfortunately, it got to be harder and harder to meet with my game buddies. As a result, I changed the type of games.
Magic the Gathering was an important part then, which now is one of the most popular games between Merix folks.
And what game is in the first place for now?
When it comes to small games, I like playing Hanabi and Resistance/Avalon. If we’re talking about big titles, Tzolk’in: Mayan calendar is my choice now.
As you can see, we’re a kind of wolfpack of people with passions that we love to share. So that wait for other stories of some of our folks ;)
