Another Project Manager, who excels at the cruel world of business, is Kamil. Yes... we have a considerable amount of Kamils and Marcins in MerixStudio. He also is another loving father in our office, so he happily shares stories about his son and shows us latest results of baby photo shoots. Our colleague often entertains us with his usually obscene jokes. If he was a Smurf he certainly would be Jokey - he doesn’t miss any opportunity to play a trick on people. Kamil also introduced a little magic to the office, and I’m not talking only about his personal charm. He initiated MTG meetings, during which players compete in magical duels. Kamil is so friendly that we can turn a blind eye to his considerable ego.
- Tell us something about yourself.
I stubbornly strive toward my goals and like to raise the bar higher and higher for myself. It’s hard for me to forgive myself when something takes me longer than I predicted. I believe that everything can be done, but you have to ask yourself at what cost. I love all types of games - RPG, cardboard and electronic ones. I am also quite active and can’t stand still for a long time. Physical activity as well as traveling with family and friends makes me glad. - What are your main responsibilities at Merxistudio?
I work as a Project Manager, which means that I manage projects. I conduct workshops, create mockups and specifications. I am the person between developers and clients, and I try to make our cooperation as smooth as it can be. - How do you work? What is important to you while working?
I'm trying to prioritize my tasks, and I think that it’s better to do the job properly and in the established order than to do everything half-heartedly at the same time. At work, I appreciate the fact that I have the direct contact with both customers and employees, because of what I’m always all over the office. When I have a good flow I put on my headphones, listen to a good rock and completely focus my tasks. - Tell us something about your beginnings in the company.
Beginnings were, as I remember, quite nice. It took me a while to meet everyone - there is a lot of us here. :-) When it comes to implementation, I found workshops I conducted with Sławek to be extremely helpful. Thanks to them I got to know standards of work at MerixStudio. All departments were always very helpful and patient. - What have you learned while working at Merixstudio?
My skills from practically every area are right now on a higher level. I had the opportunity to work on creative projects of for instance websites or mobile applications. I got to know new technologies and learned more about the ones I was already familiar with. Every day brings something new, and I treat all projects as opportunities to develop my skills and broaden my knowledge. - What do you like most about working at Merixstudio?
What I like most is how important is the development of our skills. Each week we have technical training and an additional English lessons, which are financed entirely by MerixStudio. I also like the fact that I work in the globally recognized company and the products we create are important and often awarded. And, as a bonus, I also can play Magic The Gathering with my colleagues during the break. - What was the biggest challenge you faced while working at the Merixstudio?
The biggest challenge for me was to adapt to the standards of specifications and mockups creation. MerixStudio's level is very high and to be honest, I’m still improving the quality of what I do. - Which project do you like the most from the ones you worked on in Merixstudio?
SoftwareONE, for a variety of reasons. It’s a project that we created in an extremely short time, but the bar was still set up really high for us. During our work, I was able to learn about unique capabilities of Drupal, and if there were any limitations, they are long gone by now. :-). The project is under constant development and every day we have the opportunity to implement new creative ideas, what of course gives us great pleasure. - What was your first contact with web technologies? When did you make a decision that you want to work in IT?
Since I was a kid, I was interested in electronics. I remember when I created modifications of our first computer with my older brother. To be frank, I was mostly interested in hardware, but even then I knew that I want to work in IT. - What do you think is most difficult (and most interesting) in your work as Project Manager?
The most interesting are the lack of monotony and the possibility of continuous development. I love meeting new people and helping them in transforming their ideas into a product. At one time I sit behind my desk and prepare the specifications of the service, the next I'm in another city and carry out workshops. The hard part of my job is reconciling interests of all parties involved in the project. - First thing you do when you arrive at the office.
I check my inbox before morning meeting of PM Team to see whether my plan for the day had changed. - iOS or Android?
Android. - What do you do in your free time after work?
I lead an active life with my family. I am present in my son’s life and like to watch how he grows and changes. I also love our bike rides, walking in the mountains and barbecuing by the lake. I get rid of all emotions from work at the gym, and, when I have some extra time, I grab a pad to play some good RPG game, such as Witcher. - Your favorite childhood hero is…
Kenny from South Park. I like him because he is very different than the rest of their group. - Favorite place in Poznań.
Sołacz – Rusałka – Strzeszynek bicycle path. During the summer, I visit those places almost every day. - Beer or vodka?
Whisky. - Sport?
I would rather play than watch sport. My favorite activities are riding a bike and squash. - Dog or cat?
Cat, it seems more hygienic. - Which website do you visit the most?
Facebook, because I don’t have time to meet with my old friends, but I still want to be up to speed. Additionally, when set up correctly, it works well as a source of information I find interesting. - Favorite app.
Facebook - it worked wonder when my little son liked to sleep on me, because of what I had only one hand free. :-) - Dark or light side of the Force?
Always the dark one and Rock&Roll in my heart. - If you could only visit one website for the rest of your life, what site would that be?
Probably the one I’m visiting most frequently, which is Facebook. - If you could have your dream job, what would it be?
Project Manager of RED’s new game Cyberpunk 2077.
