August, thank you for being a friend - summary of the month

Well, August is never peaceful - it warm outside and people are a bit high on endorphins for the whole month. Therefore nobody is going to be surprised that this month stuff happened. Mostly good stuff, so what's not to like? Nothing, that's what! But I know what's to like, for instance visits of cute visitors, silly office competitions and big shopping sprees - I even made a list!

1. Office Olympics

   Don’t know if you heard, but this month Brazil hosted the Olympics - it was not a big deal, so it might’ve went unnoticed. In honor of the extremely skillful Olympians we decided to have a tournament of our own. Our Office Olympics was divided into 6 categories - shooting paper balls into the basket, hula hoop, making chains out of paperclips, darts, caps race and typing test (WPM). During two weeks we were trying our best to prove that working behind a desk does nothing to our physical strength. Did it work? Obviously not, but we had fun either way! There is something extremely entertaining in seeing your grown up friends playing with hula hoop, especially when it’s as shiny and pretty as the one we have. At the end the best contestants won medals and special prizes, which are now proudly displayed at their desks. Check out the summary we published on our Facebook!

    There is no Merixstudio without puppies, that is a simple fact. They may not be as important as having a good knowledge of web development, but are not far behind on the list of most important features of our company. This time we were visited by a pupper that combined furriness with Front-End Development - a little frenchie named JSon. He is a companion of Oskar and they are simply made for each other - they are both really energetic and always ready to play. However, we are not sure whether Oskar is willing to jump through a hula hoop - guess time will tell.
11. The best (sea)side of learning

    You know what’s the best? Having the opportunity to attend a two-day workshop that is happening near the seaside. Then you are both having a mini-vacation and learning some useful things. It’s especially great when you are passionate about the thing you are learning about. Our Project Manager Kamil must’ve really pleased gods this summer, because he hit a jackpot - not only he had the opportunity to get familiar with a thing or two about responsibilities of a Product Owner, but also spent two days in Gdańsk. Good for you Kamil, you deserved it!

    You might think that workshops in an office are not as fun as the one Kamil attended, but you forgot that sometimes all you need to really enjoy learning is a great company. Unfortunately, this time our Django team only had each other to talk to… Just kidding, those dudes (and one dudette) are awesome - just take a look at Krzysiek’s face, he couldn’t be happier! Even the fact that they had their meeting of Friday couldn’t spoil his mood.

    First things first - am I too old to say “swag”? Because I think I am, but maybe I’m wrong? I think that I will regret using it about 3 minutes after the publication of this article. :) But back to the topic - check out the new Iphone we got and how glorious it was to peel of its protective foil. But don’t worry, as soon as we did it we put the special case on this precious baby - it’s far too expensive for a YOLO treatment.

    Well, phones are not the only new thing in Merixstudio’s office. If you follow us on Facebook you might’ve seen that we started to publish videos. All of them are came to life thanks to our new, tiny-tiny camera. Now none of our coworkers can feel safe when it comes to being filmed - we can use selfie stick, headgear or many other wonderful gadgets to spy on people!

    Remember what I said about having a mini-vacation while still working? Well, I hope you do, you’ve read it probably two minutes ago. But never mind, you can scratch what I’ve said - turns out that you can do better than simply visit Polish seaside. For example travel to Amsterdam for a week to have some talks with our new mysterious customer. Just ask Adam, Wiesiek, Mateusz and Maciek whether they would be happy to just discuss every detail of the project during Skype calls - I bet they wouldn’t mind.

    We are obviously only hiring adults, but just imagine how much fun we would have if we had such a smiling boy by our side on more of a daily basis.     You are probably familiar with the feeling of exhaustion when you have to work on Monday. Well, imagine that - you sit behind your desk in the morning and start to prepare yourself for a day filled with tasks, deadlines and ASAPs. Suddenly you hear that after 12:30 your office will have a power cut that will last for a whole day! Best surprise ever, amiright? That’s what happened to us last Monday - we were able to go home 4 hours early! But to make it a little bit more productive we spent some time without a power to clean our desks, thanks to what we were able to find such gems as Bajtek - an IT magazine for the 80s!

This month I’m choosing Anita as the best geeky t-shirt wearer of Merixstudio because there is not enough girls appreciating girls in this world. And because she did a bangin job by accessorizing a Batman/Superman logo with this necklace - you work it girl!

I promised you last month that my jokes will get even more stupid and I think I did not break my word. I don’t know whether I’m able to go even further next month, but we will find out at the end of September.
